Read your error code before you call
Modern washers tell you what’s wrong if you know the vocabulary. The three we see most in this area:
- LG — OE: water hasn’t drained within five minutes. Roughly a third of these are a clogged debris filter or a kinked drain hose and you can fix them yourself in ten minutes. Check that before you book us.
- Whirlpool — F9 E1: long drain. Same family of causes, but on Whirlpool front-loaders check the standpipe height first — if the drain hose is pushed too far down the standpipe you get a siphon, and no part will fix that.
- Samsung — 5E or SE: drain error. Usually the debris filter.
We publish the full diagnostic sequences, including the point at which you should stop and call us, on the error code library.
The bearing decision
A tub bearing replacement is three to four hours and $389 to $530, because on most front-loaders the machine comes apart almost completely. On a five-year-old washer that cost $900 new, that is genuinely marginal — and it’s the one repair where we most often advise against. If your machine sounds like a jet on spin and the drum has play in it when you rock it by hand, that’s the bearing, and it’s worth running the numbers before you book.
A Pasco-specific note on hoses
Pasco County Utilities disinfects with chloramines, at a running annual average of 3.26 ppm in its most recent water quality report. Chloramine is harder on rubber and elastomer parts than free chlorine and, unlike chlorine, it does not dissipate on standing. Your fill hoses and door boot live in that water permanently. If we’re already in the machine and your hoses are more than five years old, we’ll replace them for the cost of the parts rather than leave you a flood risk.
Common questions
How much does washing machine repair cost?
From $179 for a drive belt up to $389–$530 for a tub bearing. A drain pump is $205 and an inlet valve $195, both flat rate with parts, labour and tax included.
My washer is leaking. What should I do right now?
Shut the supply valves at the wall and stop using it. Leaks are a same-day call for us, and the longer a leak runs the more likely you are paying for flooring as well as a repair.
Is a front-loader door seal worth replacing?
Usually yes. A door boot is $289 fitted, against $900 or more for a comparable new machine, so on anything under about eight years old the repair wins comfortably.
Why does my washer smell?
Almost always the door boot and detergent drawer on a front-loader, not a fault. Run a hot maintenance wash, leave the door ajar between loads, and use less detergent than the box suggests.
